Sustainability

Building for the future, on a site that has one

Sustainability is one of Primebuild's six stated core values - and in Kenya it is also increasingly a condition of approval rather than a preference.

Sustainability at Primebuild

Primebuild Construction Limited believes in building for the future, and strives to minimise its environmental impact and maximise energy efficiency and resource conservation in all of its projects. That is the firm's own stated core value.

In Kenya this has a regulatory edge as well as an ethical one. Projects of scale require environmental impact assessment under NEMA, water abstraction and discharge are licensed, and the direction of travel in building services regulation is towards efficiency rather than away from it. A contractor who treats sustainability as an afterthought creates approval risk for the client as well as environmental cost.

“We believe in building for the future, and strive to minimize our environmental impact and maximize energy efficiency and resource conservation in all of our projects.”

Principles

What sustainability means here

Energy efficiency designed in

Orientation, shading, glazing and services are decisions taken at design stage. Under Integrated Project Delivery, Primebuild's own design and engineering team can take them together rather than in sequence.

Resource conservation on site

The core value names resource conservation explicitly. Accurate setting out and ordering reduce over-supply; segregating waste keeps recoverable material out of a skip.

Water as infrastructure

Primebuild's registration with the Ministry of Water & Sanitation and its completed storage tank work put water at the centre of its practice, where storage, harvesting and reuse are engineering decisions.

Refurbishment over replacement

The lowest-carbon building is usually the one already standing. Primebuild's renovation and rehabilitation practice turns dilapidated premises into modern, habitable space rather than demolishing and starting again.

In practice

On a live site

What the commitment above actually looks like between mobilisation and handover.

Renewable generation

Roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panels are visible on Primebuild's own completed commercial building - installed work rather than an aspiration.

Rainwater harvesting and storage

Storage tanks, guttering and reticulation are within the firm's registered water infrastructure capability.

Local materials

Dressed natural stone, used across Primebuild's completed work, is a Kenyan material with a short supply chain and long service life.

Waste segregation

Separating spoil, masonry, timber, metal and packaging on site is what makes recovery possible at all.

Drainage and erosion control

Stone-pitched channels and graded surrounds - visible in Primebuild's water infrastructure work - manage runoff instead of exporting it to a neighbour.

Adaptive reuse

Complete refurbishment tailored to a building's intended use retains structure, foundations and embodied carbon that demolition would discard.

Primebuild is confirming the supporting documentation for this page — Any NEMA-registered EIA experience, green building certifications pursued or achieved, a waste management procedure, and details of solar or water-harvesting installations completed. Questions

Sustainability: common questions

What is Primebuild's approach to sustainable construction?

Sustainability is one of Primebuild Construction Limited's six core values: the firm builds for the future and strives to minimise environmental impact while maximising energy efficiency and resource conservation on all of its projects. In practice that covers solar installation, water storage and harvesting, local materials, waste segregation and the refurbishment of existing buildings rather than their replacement.

Does Primebuild install solar power?

Primebuild's completed two-storey commercial building carries a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic array. To discuss solar provision on a specific project, contact the office on +254 705 555 760.

Is renovating greener than building new?

Usually, yes. Retaining an existing structure retains the carbon already embodied in its foundations, frame and envelope, which a new build would have to spend again. Primebuild's overhaul, renovation and rehabilitation service is built around turning existing premises into modern, habitable space.

Can Primebuild help with water harvesting and storage?

Yes. Primebuild is registered by the Ministry of Water & Sanitation and its completed work includes a sectional steel water storage tank on reinforced concrete plinths with associated drainage.
