Health & safety

Everyone who arrives on site goes home from it

Safety is one of Primebuild's six stated core values, and it is the one with the least room for interpretation.

Health & Safety at Primebuild

Primebuild Construction Limited treats the safety of its team and its clients as its top priority and adheres to all relevant safety standards and regulations. That is the firm's own stated core value, not a marketing line added for a website.

In practice, safety on a Kenyan construction site is governed by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and enforced by the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services. It covers everything from edge protection and excavation support to welfare facilities and the competence of the people doing the work - which is precisely why Primebuild's trades hold Directorate of Industrial Training grade certification rather than asserted experience.

Principles

What health & safety means here

Competence before task

Primebuild's masons, carpenters, plumbers and electricians hold DIT-certified grade tests. Assessed competence is the first control: most site incidents trace back to someone doing work they were never trained to do.

Directly supervised trades

The company profile is explicit that staff and equipment are the firm's core assets. Supervision is Primebuild's own rather than devolved to a chain of subcontractors, so a safety instruction has one line of authority behind it.

Statutory compliance as process

Primebuild applies established procedures to meet clients' statutory requirements. Safety notifications and approvals belong in the programme from mobilisation, not in a scramble before an inspection.

Safety is a client issue too

The value names the safety of clients alongside the team. On occupied sites - a working school, a parish, a functioning clinic - protecting the people already in the building is part of the job, not a courtesy.

In practice

On a live site

What the commitment above actually looks like between mobilisation and handover.

Site establishment

Hoarding, controlled access, welfare provision and signage are set up as part of mobilisation, before the first productive work starts.

Personal protective equipment

Hard hats and high-visibility clothing on site as standard - visible in Primebuild's own project photography, which is the most honest evidence available.

Excavation and working at height

The two activities that account for the most serious construction injuries get specific attention: support to excavations, and edge protection and access on elevated work.

Occupied-site phasing

Where a school, parish or clinic stays in use, works are phased and separated so that the public and the works never share a route.

Plant and lifting operations

Excavators, gantry cranes and hoists are operated by trained operators within an exclusion zone, with lifts planned rather than improvised.

Reporting and correction

Issues raised on site are recorded and closed out rather than resolved verbally and forgotten.

Documentation. Primebuild is confirming the supporting documentation for this page — OSH registration details, a copy of the written safety policy, any safety training records or awards, accident frequency rate, and the name of the appointed safety officer. For any of it in relation to a live tender or project, contact the office directly.

Questions

Health & Safety: common questions

Does Primebuild have a health and safety policy?

Safety is one of Primebuild Construction Limited's six stated core values: the safety of the team and clients is the firm's top priority, and it adheres to all relevant safety standards and regulations. For a copy of the firm's site-specific safety documentation for a particular project, contact the office on +254 705 555 760.

Are Primebuild's workers trained?

Yes. Primebuild's masons, carpenters, plumbers and electricians are trained and hold certified grade tests awarded at the Directorate of Industrial Training, Kenya's national standard for assessed trade competence.

Can Primebuild work on a site that stays occupied?

Yes. Primebuild's client list includes schools, a parish and health organisations, where the building normally remains in use. Works are phased and physically separated so that occupants and construction traffic never share a route.

Who is responsible for safety on a Primebuild site?

Primebuild directly employs its technical staff and supervises its own trades, so responsibility for site safety sits with the firm rather than being distributed across a chain of subcontractors.
